People look at me funny when I wish them a “Happy Memorial Day!” My wife just told me I should be wishing people a “Meaningful Memorial Day.” or a “Peaceful Memorial Day!” Those are nice too.
I am happy on Memorial Day. Here’s why. Pain and grief of loss affects us all and lasts possibly for life. I don’t know, I still grieve the losses I’ve suffered. If there’s an after-life, as I firmly believe, and I’d passed into it, I’d want to check in on my loved ones regularly. I’d want to see them happy, perhaps telling stories of the times we shared and things we’d done. The after-party following my funeral better be a huge party with a lot of laughter and reminiscing, I’m telling you. I’ll be there, in spirit, so take note. If there’s no after-life, as many believe, I won’t care what happens in my absence. I figure I might as well assume there is an after-life. The idea costs me nothing and makes me happy and hopeful.
I usually prefer to think in the positive. There is an after-life. The absent do want to see their loved ones happy, healing and living their lives, joyful and not saddened, in the memories we shared and assured that I’m waiting just over the other side, where we’ll see each other again and share more wonderful experiences.

In that Light, I wish you and all our absent friends and family, a happy, memorable and joyful Memorial Day.
Truly…Have Fun!
