Retirement Planning: Delay It or Seize It

Retirement Planning: Delay It or Seize It

I’m not a financial planner. Far from it. My wife still gives me an allowance. 😮 That said… I am an old guy who tries to plan everything. Thankfully, I’m married to a genius so I, most definitely, don’t control the money. 😁

Costs are always rising. Inflation is something that never really lets up. Frugal living might not be able to bridge the gap. The funds that were the plan 10 years ago might not be enough by today’s projections, so delaying retirement looks more like a necessity than a choice nowadays for many. Do the benefits outweigh the costs though? Something to really consider.

Anyway… I read this article on CNBC, discussing delaying retirement and the risks involved. Here’s the link:

Health issues, job losses, difficulty for older folks, like me, in finding new employment, taking care of family members and a host of other issues can force the issue & make early retirement seem like a foregone conclusion. Reading articles & doing research is a good first step. Speaking with a fiduciary advisor is your best bet to come up with a solid plan.

As a Realtor, I’m a fiduciary to my clients, legally responsible to put my client’s interests before even my own. A fiduciary in a financial planner doesn’t push the products with the best commission rates or other “Spiffs”. They push the best performing products or the ones with the best prospects.

Anyway you slice it, solid planning & determined execution of the plan is key to best prep for retirement. Consult a financial planner and ask if they’re a fiduciary. It’s important.

Again, not a financial planner…I’m just an old guy in the same boat.

Have Fun!
